Taekwondo..Korean Combat System

Taekwondo1 (hangul: 태권도, hanja: 跆拳道, revised romanization: taekwondo, McCune-Reischauer: T'aekwŏndo, pronunciation: tʰɛ.k'wən.do)? It is a martial art transformed into an Olympic combat sport since 1988, when it was introduced as a demonstration sport in the Olympic Games held in the city of Seoul in South Korea.

Taekwondo stands out for the variety and spectacularity of its kicking techniques and is currently one of the best known systems. Taekwondo is fundamentally based on much older martial arts such as kung fu or Chinese wu shu, in some of its open-hand techniques, Korean taekkyon in the form and performance of foot kicks, and karate-do Japanese (Shūdōkan and shotokan styles), from where he obtains the blows with the fist, several of the open hand blows, the planimetry (or zoning of the human body by zones: high-medium-low), the blocks, the positions , the belt grade system, his first uniform, and his first forms known as "palgwe", in the WTF (World Taekwondo Federation) and the "Hyong" forms in the ITF (International Taekwon-Do Federation).

It is characterized by its extensive use of leg and kick techniques, which are much more varied and have a greater role than in most martial arts. Likewise, their refined technique makes them stand out for their great speed and precision.

The importance given to fist techniques depends on the style (ITF or WTF) practiced, the coach and the school where it is practiced. Currently, many schools tend to neglect the training of open hand and fist techniques, since their use is increasingly restricted in competition, giving more points to the feet. However, a good training should include both the hand techniques and the leg techniques of Taekwondo, since it should not be focused solely on success in competition but on mastery and knowledge of martial art.

All this makes Taekwondo an especially effective martial art in standing fighting, thus standing out from other martial arts at long distance, where explosive strength, concatenation speed / combination of leg techniques can be better exploited that its practitioners develop and without forgetting breathing and meditation.
