Muay Thai

Muay Thai (from Thai: มวยไทย, RTGS: Muai Thai, AFI: [mūɛj tʰāj]), also known as Thai boxing, is a Thai martial art, which is developed standing up using combined leg and arm techniques. Very similar to other Indochinese boxing systems, such as Prodal from Cambodia, Tomoy from Malaysia, Lethwei from Burma and Muay Lao from Laos.

Today muay thai has become a national symbol of the history and identity of the Kingdom of Thailand. 1 2 3 4 Its roots are in Muay Boran, a traditional variant and martial art (which includes figures, open-hand techniques , dislocations, throws and takedowns). Today this discipline complements Muay Thai, along with western boxing.

At present, Muay Thai is usually considered an extreme sport, which favors betting, and therefore a sport that is considered illegal in several countries, such as in some states of the United States.

Muay Thai is full of various techniques. The contemporary adaptation as a sport resembles it in principle to western boxing especially since gloves were adopted since 1930. It should be noted that currently it is considered the most effective sport when compared to other contact disciplines as long as the combat is done standing and fists, and that fighter who uses elbows or knees is disqualified. In this discipline you can use all parts of the extremities such as the hand, arm, foot, or leg, except the knees and elbows.
